Como Lake Stormwater Management Plan 5 - Houston Engineering INC.
Como Lake Stormwater Management Plan

To improve Como Lake water quality, the Capitol Region Watershed District (CRWD) retained Houston Engineering, Inc. HEI to develop a collaborative stormwater management plan.

Background

To improve the water quality of Como Lake, the Capitol Region Watershed District (CRWD) retained HEI to develop a collaborative stormwater management plan.

The Project

The project used stormwater conveyance and water quality best management practice (BMP) information previously developed by HEI in the first phase of the Como Lake plan development. This project (Phase 2) quantified the additional treatment amount necessary to treat a goal of 1.1 inches of runoff over the impervious surface within Como Park. Planned park improvement projects were then analyzed to determine the feasibility to meet the 1.1-inch treatment goal. Each planned park improvement project was analyzed for the treatment of 1.1 inches and 2 inches of impervious runoff using a site-by-site and a regional approach. The assessment provided information to direct future planning efforts for stormwater management in Como Park.

Further detail was provided by modeling treatment scenarios to realize pollutant reductions toward achieving Como Lake goals.

  • Identified high-priority opportunities for additional stormwater treatment above regulatory requirements for planned improvement projects.
  • Provided analysis of a regional stormwater approach compared to a localized site-by-site approach.
  • Quantified potential pollutant load reductions for various treatment approaches.
