North Dakota Department of Health Surface Water Viewer

Water Viewer 4 - Houston Engineering INC.
North Dakota Department of Health Surface Water Viewer

The North Dakota Department of Health hired HEI to develop a user-friendly, interactive GIS-based web application to display multiple map layers including county boundaries, lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands.

Background

The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDH) hired HEI to develop a user-friendly, interactive
GIS-based web application to display multiple map layers including county boundaries, lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands. Their desired interactive mapping solution would illustrate the NDDH’s surface water quality monitoring locations and allow users to access and download the surface water quality data available for each site. In 2020, HEI was retained to upgrade this application with Experience Builder.

The Project

The viewer is complete with a search function and the options to create and download custom reports. Users can search for surface water quality monitoring sites within the application. Searches were designed to include station name, county, watershed, stream, or lake. Detailed water quality reports can be created for stream and lake sites and include summary statistics and charts. Easy to download, these reports provide staff with concrete evidence of local water quality. HEI provided training to staff using a webinar demonstration.
