Fargo Water Tower
Background
With the City of Fargo’s continued growth and development, there has been a need for additional water storage within the Fargo water distribution system. The City decided to built a new water tower to support the continued growth.
The Project
Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) worked with the City on the design, construction observation, and administration for the new 2-million gallon elevated water storage tower. The water tower includes extra storage for the current and future distribution system, fire protection storage, and emergency storage. This is the 11th water tower built in the City of Fargo and has the largest capacity.
The water tower is approximately 125 feet high. Its foundation and pedestal consist of approximately 1.4 miles of pipe piling, 650 cubic yards of concrete, and 69,400 pounds of reinforcement. HEI prepared easements for access to the tower and assisted in negotiations with two landowners. The concrete pedestal for the water tower was completed in the fall of 2010. The 98-foot diameter steel tank was welded and painted in 2011, and the tower went into service early summer of 2012.
