The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department (NDPRD) wants to create a new day park south of Bismarck along the Missouri River. This park will provide a variety of land- and water-based recreational opportunities for local residents and visitors alike.
The Project
The NDPRD retained HEI to help make the day park a reality. HEI will provide civil engineering, environmental, surveying, archaeological, and planning services to the NDPRD.
Concepts for the park are not concrete yet, and HEI is assisting the NDPRD in determining the feasibility and practicality of various recreational opportunities. This also includes identifying the impacts of the park on soil, plants, and animals.
Public input also played a key role in this project, since it is ultimately being created to serve the public’s needs. Feedback from the public informed final decisions and designs of the park itself.
Once concepts for the park become finalized, HEI will complete roadway and parking design as well as municipal work. By working with a largely undeveloped piece of land, HEI has the freedom to design in a way that will avoid vehicle conflict points and minimize negative impacts to the area.
Planning was completed in the summer of 2016.
