Join us in welcoming Kyle Werning to HEI!
Kyle Werning recently joined HEI as a civil engineer in our Sioux Falls, South Dakota, office. A native of Bettendorf, Iowa, Kyle brings water expertise to our team. Kyle will work on a variety of water resource projects like hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, water resources studies, public drainage system design, and storm water planning.

Fun Facts:
- What drew you to HEI, and what excites you most about joining our team? I’ve always been impressed by the water resource projects Houston has accomplished and being part of a team that takes on large scale and complex projects was really intriguing to me. I’m most excited to get to know the team members, working with large H/H models, and start working on the great water resources projects!
- What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Outside of work during the summer I like being outdoors backpacking/hiking/camping, working on my fixer upper house, or going to the occasional concert. During the winter I like to get up to northern Minnesota to camp and I’m also a huge ski bum (even if I live in South Dakota). So, I normally try to get to the mountains at least a couple times and go on a large cross county road/ski trip every year. Outside of that I’m normally just planning my next adventure, currently it’s training to complete RAGBRAI LII this summer!
- What’s your favorite way to relax and unwind after a busy day? Being able to work on the house or go for a bike ride before ending up on the couch to watch some type of sporting event depending on the time of year.
- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? For a person like me who likes to travel it’s hard to choose just one, so my Mount Rushmore would be Antartica, Patagonia, Alaska, and Mount Everest Base Camp. I’m strongly attracted to large sparsely populated places that are a little desolate as I feel like it puts the world into perspective and slows time down from the fast pace of your normal routine.
- What’s your favorite snack? Very situational: Road trips are pizza combos, hanging around the house is meat sticks.
- What is your favorite fuel for staying energized? Black Coffee and in typical Kyle fashion, Reign Energy Drinks
