Five Interns Join HEI Full-Time

We welcome five members joining HEI as full-time staff, with a few more set to join later this summer!

We are excited to have these individuals who interned at HEI last summer or continued working part-time through the school year, and return as full-time staff after graduation.

Welcome Matthew Austin

Headshot of Matthew AustinCongratulations to Matthew Austin on transitioning from an intern to a full-time Graduate Engineer! Matthew began working as an engineering intern in the Minot and Grand Forks, ND, offices and is moving to the Bismarck, ND, office, and will be on the water supply team in our water resource sector.

Originally from Minot, he attended the University of North Dakota, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

 

Fun Facts:

  • What drew you to HEI, and what excites you most about joining our team? The opportunity to continue to learn more about water and wastewater treatment.
  • What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Going to the gym and working on my car.
  • What’s your favorite local business, restaurant, or event in your community? I like Broadway Bean and Bagel in Minot, ND.
  • What’s your favorite snack? Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
  • What is your favorite fuel for staying energized? Celsius or Monster.

Welcome Logan Fonder

Headshot of Logan Fonder.Congratulations to Logan Fonder on transitioning from an intern to a full-time Graduate Engineer! Logan began working as an engineering intern in the Minot office back in summer 2024 and is now part of our municipal and site design team there.

A Minot, ND, native, he attended North Dakota State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in construction management.

 

Fun Facts:

  • What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Hunting, fishing, and hanging out with friends. 
  • What’s your favorite food? Steak or burgers.
  • What is your favorite fuel for staying energized? Monster energy drinks.

Welcome Coltan Koehn

Coltan Koehn headshot.Congratulations to Coltan Koehn on transitioning from an intern to a full-time Graduate Engineer! Coltan began working as an engineering intern in the Fargo office in the summer of 2024 and is now part of the municipal and site design team.

Originally from Alexandria, MN, he attended North Dakota State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

 

Fun Facts:

    • What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Anything outdoors: biking; hiking; and playing sports like soccer, tennis, and pickleball. I also enjoy watching sports, reading, and singing in the choir.
    • What is your favorite fuel for staying energized? BUBBL’R.
    • What’s your favorite food? Grandma’s rice pudding.

Welcome Jenny Pulkrabek

Headhshot of Junny Pulkrabek.Congratulations to Jenny Pulkrabek on transitioning from an intern to a full-time Engineering Technician! Jenny interned with us during the summer of 2025 in the Bismarck office, and she returns as part of the survey team.

Originally from Mandan, ND, she attended Bismarck State College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in surveying and civil engineering.

 

Fun Facts:

    • What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Working on the family farm and hanging out with friends.
    • If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I like to go to Norway, mainly because that is where my grandpa came from. My grandpa was also a Land surveyor and Civil Engineer.
    • What’s your favorite snack? Hot tamale candies.  
    • What is your favorite fuel for staying energized? Coffee, the best coffee from the Main Street drive-thru in Mandan. The Nutty Professor is my favorite.

Welcome Jake Seip

Jake Seip headshotCongratulations to Jake Seip on transitioning from an intern to a full-time Graduate Engineer! Jake began working as an intern in the Omaha, NE, office and is now part of the flood control team in our water resources sector.

Originally from Lincoln, NE, he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

 

Fun Facts:

    • What drew you to HEI, and what excites you most about joining our team? I met some of the Omaha office at the UNL Career fair, and I loved their attitudes and personalities, and really enjoyed getting to know more about what HEI does and how close the office is to each other.
    • What do you enjoy doing outside of work? I am a big outdoorsman; I love hunting and fishing, as well as hiking and kayaking. I recently started to enjoy playing golf quite a bit.
    • What is your favorite snack? Popcorn.
