Two awards. One Project. One Impact.
HEI is proud to announce that the Eastern Polk County Stream Restoration has received both the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Iowa Section 2026 Outstanding Civil Engineering Project Achievement Award and the American Public Works Association (APWA) Iowa Chapter 2026 Project of the Year Award in the Environment, $500,000 to $1,000,000 category. The awards recognize projects that demonstrate engineering excellence, innovation, collaboration, and meaningful benefits to communities and the environment.
Located within Thomas Mitchell Park in eastern Polk County, the project restored and stabilized priority reaches of Camp Creek to address erosion, improve water quality, enhance aquatic habitat, strengthen flood resilience, and protect recreational resources. The work also serves as a model for future watershed and stream restoration efforts throughout the region.
The award-winning project was made possible through collaboration among Polk County Conservation, Polk County Public Works, Veit & Company, and HEI. Together, the team delivered a sustainable solution that provides lasting benefits for residents, park visitors, and natural resources in eastern Polk County.
