To enable continuous operation of the Minot landfill, the City was required to begin preparations for construction of a new cell within the landfill.
The City of Minot operates a landfill facility that not only accepts municipal waste, but also maintains areas for trees, yard waste, appliances, tires, inert waste, and building materials. Due to rapid population growth and recent flooding events, the quantity of municipal waste accepted at this facility has increased each year, causing the currently open cell to fill more rapidly than expected. To enable continuous operation of the landfill, the City was required to begin preparations for construction of a new cell within the landfill.
The City of Minot retained HEI to prepare plans and specifications for the construction of the new municipal waste landfill cell (Cell 5). The plans include design of the composite base liner, leachate collection system, grading, and stormwater management. HEI also provided surveying of existing conditions, construction staking, assistance with the bidding process, and project management.
Construction was completed in spring of 2014.
