Our team understands the mantra, “work hard, play hard.” From competing in companywide step challenges to relaxing at a picnic on a summer evening, here’s a look back at some activity highlights our team enjoyed this year.
Companywide Step Challenge
Each summer, our HR team hosts a companywide steps challenge for our team members to step up their walking game. Our Witness the Fitness Steps Challenge for 2023 had record-breaking participation! Congrats to our grand winner, Bethany Fraase, who was awarded 8 hours of PTO. Check out these fun facts to learn more:
Golf Outings
Why do golfers always carry two pairs of pants? In case they get a hole-in-one! Golf outings were enjoyed across several of our office locations. Check out the summary below.
ASCE Iowa Sector Golf Outing
Our team members had a great time at Central Iowa ASCE Younger Member Group’s Annual Golf Outing. HEI was proud to sponsor this event, where our team placed 4th, Ted Bridges won the men’s longest drive, and we (unofficially) won best dressed!
Golf Scrambles
HEI team members had tee-rific times at several golf scrambles across our offices! Prizes were awarded to the best and worst teams, making it un-fore-gettable.
Disc Golf Lessons
As a competitive disc golfer, Tristan Balmer putt his best foot forward by giving our team a disc golf lesson.
Parades
Who doesn’t love a parade? HEI team members participated several parades. They had a great time handing out candy and seeing everyone who came to watch the floats go by!

Picnics
As the summer came to its final days, HEI’s team at various locations enjoyed some good food and fun in the sun.
Sweet Treats at HEI
Summer wouldn’t be complete without a few treats! Our team members enjoyed a variety of sweet treats and team outings to celebrate the summer.
- HEI team members enjoyed Dippin’ Dots to kick off summer!
- HEI participated in Dairy Queen’s Miracle Treat Day where 60 employees enjoyed blizzards, and the proceeds went to Sanford Children’s Hospital. What a “cool” way to give back!
- Bullseye! HEI team members got together for axe throwing. They enjoyed wings, pizza, drinks, and quality time together.
- HEI team members said goodbye to summer with Kona Ice of NE Omaha! Staff enjoyed multitudes of flavors, such as Sour Berry Blast, Unicorn, and Pina Colada. Now it’s time to leaf summer behind us and welcome fall.
