Welcome Granville Barker to HEI
We are thrilled to have Granville Barker join us as a Software Engineer! Granville is located in Mississippi as a remote team member. Originally from Marks, Mississippi, Granville brings extensive experience in software development and programming, as well as an interest in civil engineering to our team.

Fun Facts
- What drew you to HEI, and what excites you most about joining our team? I was intrigued to find a civil engineering firm that does software development. My father was a civil engineer with his own practice. I grew up helping him with land surveying, and land leveling, for many water associations, as well as sewer projects. In the 70’s, he used TRS-80s from RadioShack with their word processor for his engineering specifications. I would get all the TRS-80 magazines and type in programs to try out (they would print code for programs in magazines back then.) Later, we got IBM PC’s and AutoCAD. I’m skilled with AutoCAD, but these days I prefer OpenSCAD. I’ve even written some OpenSCAD libraries for coordinate geometry to lay out a subdivision on some of my own land. Anyway, I felt like working for HEI would mesh my civil engineering knowledge with my programming skills to help create some great products.
- What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Most important is spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy tinkering with my home automation system (Home Assistant, ESPHome, and Control4), robots, and other personal projects. Checking out the latest AI models and their capabilities is fun. Cutting the grass when it’s not too hot here and keeping the pool clean and clear. Camping and maintaining the RV. I have a few antique cars that always need attention. We live within walking distance from Mississippi State University, and there’s usually something interesting going on there (international fiesta, sporting events, art shows, or a speaker).
- What’s your favorite way to relax and unwind after a busy day? I like to catch the financial news, watch a movie or TV show with my family, and float around in the pool during the warmer months.
- If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I’ve always wanted to see the Pyramids in Egypt. I am fascinated by the mystery of how they were constructed.
- What’s your favorite snack? Hot Tamales (candy), Chex Mix, Milk Duds, and Whoppers.
- What is your favorite fuel for staying energized? Sweet iced tea and the previously mentioned Hot Tamales.
