Location: Mandan, ND
Client: City of Mandan
Background
In 2009, the City of Mandan was in the process of updating and reconstructing their heavy traffic routes to accomodate future growth. Sunset Drive is one of the major streets in the City of Mandan and provides access to the Interstate, three public schools, the community center, a skate park, 56 adjacent residential homes, and multiple residential subdivisions. It provides the only connection to the northwest part of town. Portions of Sunset Drive were in a state of extreme disrepair and needed to be reconstructed.
The Project
In the winter of 2009, the City retained Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) to perform a preliminary survey of eight city blocks of Sunset Drive, from 7th Street Northwest to 15th Street Northwest.
The project included reconstructing the water main, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, street lights, sidewalk, curb and gutter, and roadway. The project scope included:
- Utility locations

- Traffic turn lane analysis
- Solicitation of views
- Field review, wetland field delineation, and Class III cultural resource analysis
