MREFPP Phase MI-1 Wins ACEC/ND Engineering Excellence Award
Post Date: May 15, 2023
Congratulations to the
Souris River Joint Board
(SRJB) for earning the Engineering Excellence Award from the
American Council of Engineering Companies North Dakota
(ACEC/ND) for the
Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project (MREFPP) Phase MI-1
!
This project consists of major flood protection infrastructure in Minot to combat against possible future historic flooding events. The catastrophic Mouse (Souris) River flood event of 2011 caused historic damage to the city of Minot. In its aftermath, the SRJB has been leading the charge to build new infrastructure that protects the community from future flood events. Construction for Phase MI-1 is substantially complete. This phase starts in the heart of Minot and stretches more than a mile. This $43-million investment into flood protection and civil infrastructure improvements will help remove approximately 60% of Minot’s residents from the floodplain.
