Fargo Project Awarded ND Ready Mix Gold Star Award

2nd Street Outside of Downtown Fargo
The Fargo 2nd Street South Floodwall System and Closure Structures project was awarded the 2020 ND Ready Mix Gold Star Award for Sustainable Design. This project, completed for the City of Fargo, was built to protect citizens and businesses from flooding along the Red River.

Wherever possible, the project team incorporated sustainability concepts into the design and construction practices of the project. The pavement throughout the project area is light-colored. This helps with urban heat while also improving safety throughout the area by achieving greater visibility. Busy roadways pass both through and adjacent to the project area, so the improved visibility will help both pedestrians and motorists better navigate the area. Life-cycle costs of the project were also improved by using concrete, which ensures the project will last for many years to come, saving on public funds in the long term.

This project also used reusable form liners for the floodwalls, ensuring each form liner could be used numerous times throughout the construction process.
