Congratulations to the
Souris River Joint Board (SRJB) on earning the 2021 Crown Communities Award, an annual series of awards issued by
American City & County recognizing notable projects that have a substantial impact on constituents.
The SRJB's Mouse River Enhanced Flood Protection Project (MREFPP) Phase MI-1 project earned this award, which protects Minot residents and businesses from flood damage. HEI’s team is proud to be part of this monumental effort.
The catastrophic Mouse (Souris) River flood event of 2011 caused historic damage to the city of Minot. In its aftermath, the SRJB has been leading the charge to build new infrastructure that protects the community from future flood events. Construction for Phase MI-1 finished in fall 2021. This phase starts in the heart of Minot and stretches more than a mile. The project included a concrete floodwall and other structural components. This $43-million investment into flood protection and civil infrastructure improvements will help remove approximately 60% of Minot’s residents from the floodplain.
