Houston Engineering and Moore Engineering Receive Outstanding Engineering Design Award

Houston Engineering and Moore Engineering received the 2011-2012 Outstanding Engineering Design Award from the Fargo Chapter of the North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers (NDSPE) for their project, FM Area Diversion Feasibility Study Technical Assistance. The project entailed the technical assistance performed together by Houston Engineering and Moore Engineering in an effort to resolve the flooding problem in the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding areas.

The award recognizes outstanding engineer firms based on the engineering design content of a project completed or under construction in 2011. Judgment was based on innovation, quality and uniqueness.

GIS Technician

We have an immediate opening for a GIS Technician.

This position is responsible for performing entry to mid-level professional GIS duties while assisting engineers, surveyors, and environmental scientists with their daily activities.  The candidate will be involved in all aspects of GIS map generation including data creation and editing, querying, and spatial analysis, map compilation and map production.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of GIS software for map generation and data creation
• Strong background working with ESRI ArcGIS software
• Experience with DFIRM production, parcel mapping, AutoCAD and Open Source MapServer software is a plus
• Minimum education of 2 year degree in GIS from an accredited technical college or program
• Experience with civil engineering, water resources, or environmental related projects are preferred

Anticipated Duties

• Completing engineering analysis and calculations
• Preparing engineering services scope of work documents and associated budgets

• Hold and attend project status and client meeting
• Prepare studies, reports, designs, plans and specifications on projects with civil, municipal, and water resources engineering

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in the design and construction of municipal services related to roadways, water and sewer services, drainage and storm water management
• ND Professional Engineer license or the ability to obtain license with 6 months
• Excellent leadership and project management skills
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred

Likely project areas include municipal work involving street and utilities reconstruction; highway and rural roadway re-design and construction; water distribution system design and construction; water resource studies and site design.  Candidate must be willing to travel throughout the State/Region to perform project meetings, project management and construction observation.

Survey Crew Chief

We have an immediate opening for an experienced Survey Crew Chief. 

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in the analysis, preparation, and completion of boundary, planimetric, topographic, and construction surveys 
• Travel to various job sites to obtain necessary survey data and job site information
• Process survey data, including evaluating accuracy and sufficiency, and ensuring compliance to applicable regulations and professional and industry standards related to boundary calculations, legal descriptions, etc.
• Perform deed research, deed plotting and map checks
• Prepare survey plats and drawings, legal descriptions and alignment drawings
• Perform quality control checks of plats and drawings prepared by other technicians
• Ensure schedules and productivity objectives set by supervisor for preparation of survey plats and drawings are achieved

Desired Experience, Education & Skills

• 3-5 years progressive field and office experience in route survey projects, boundary analysis, topographic surveys, DTM projects, and construction surveys using GPS survey techniques
• LSIT, ND PLS, or the ability to obtain ND PLS preferred
• Excellent computer and technical skills, including Auto CAD and/or MicroStation and Microsoft Office
• AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble survey equipment experience preferred
• Pipeline experience preferred
• Proficient in technical math, including Geometry and Trigonometry
• Strong listening, writing and verbal communication skills
• Proven work history, strong work ethic and team-player attitude
